There are several local attractions you can visit, including Custer State Park, Wind Cave National Park, Storybook Land, and Porter Sculpture Park. Custer State Park

Wind Cave National Park

Storybook Land

Storybook Land is a theme park that features the characters from the famous children’s book, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” It begins at Dorothy’s home in Kansas and continues through Munchkin Land, the Land of Oz, and the yellow brick road to Oz. Visitors will meet the Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, and Wizard’s Balloon, among others.

The park also includes a zoo, a mini golf course, and bumper cars. Storybook Land is free to visit and is open daily, from 10 am to 9 pm during the summer months. During Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, Storybook Land is open for kids two and younger. Adults may accompany children for free.

Visitors can also ride on the Storybook Land Express for a scenic view of the entire park and the neighboring zoo. The train departs from the park’s loading station, which is an authentic 1881 train depot. During the summer, the Storybook Land Express runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The cost of tickets is $2.25 per person and you can purchase them at the Visitors Center. Tickets are also available for special events.

Porter Sculpture Park

Porter Sculpture Park is a five-star attraction with an eclectic collection of sculptures. Each piece is hand-crafted by the sculptor himself, Wayne Porter. It is open to the public from May 15 to October 15 each year. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for youth ages thirteen and up. Children under 12 are admitted free.

The Porter Sculpture Park is a roadside attraction in southeastern South Dakota. The park’s centerpiece is a 60-foot scrap-iron longhorn bull, which stands atop 10 acres of welded sculptures. During the summer months, Porter spends up to seven days a week working on the park’s pieces.

Deadwood
